RN to BSN in California

California’s RNs work in a range of capacities, from private on-site care providers to traditional hospital roles. They are also among the best paid in the country, earning $33,000 higher than the national average of $66,000. With RN employment prospects expected to increase statewide over the next few years, now is an excellent to time to think about getting a BSN.

The state of California’s early and full adoption of the Affordable Care Act, along with state-based initiatives to increase health insurance coverage, have contributed greatly to the need for more nurses. Proposed and pending legislation will expand coverage to undocumented immigrants, increasing the need that much more. As demand for trained nurses grows, RNs with advanced education credentials will be quickly hired.

My mother was a Diploma RN and encouraged me, from the start, to get a BSN. I followed her advice and have never regretted it. My BSN was a springboard for further education, first in becoming a nurse practitioner and later when I received my MSN. The advanced education provides the RN for a broader scope and is consistent with the complex and dynamic medical and psychosocial needs that many patients have in today’s health care environment. Education makes a difference!
